Ever 'ad an adder?

Went looking for adders on Sunday at a spot indicated to me by a friend. I had no luck (too cold probably) but instead added (addered?) two new birds to my year list. One, a Woodcock, is a lifer which I flushed by accident.

I also got this distant shot of a Kestrel.

  1. Did you know, I once found a woodcock in the car park of the college, right by the principal's car space? It was quite dead, but still warm and limp (no rigor) and bright-eyed. I can not for the life of me work out how a woodcock met its end in the middle of the day in a busy city centre. There wasn't a mark on it.
I took it to the Leeds City Museum (when there still was one) and gave it to the taxidermist.

  2. "They're" in the process of refurbishing the Leeds Institute building which is due to open as the new Leeds City Museum when it's finished. I look forward to visiting the Brian Trevelyan Woodcock Gallery to view your magnificent specimen which will surely have pride of place.
